2020 Census and Voter Registration

AsSalaam-u-'Alaikum The purpose of this survey is to assist in the completion of the 2020 census and mobilize the community for the election. The census is a constitutionally mandated process that must occur every 10 years. By law, each household is to fill out a census questionnaire. These counts are supremely important - based on this the government allocates money, school resources, representation in the congress, and much more. By under-counting, our community will be short-changed these resources. While the questions may seem intrusive in terms of address, contact information - this is the information we need to shape our outreach regarding the census. The community has been given a financial grant by the government to help complete this process and this is part of that effort. All residents, whether citizens or non-citizens, are legally counted and required to fill out the census. In NO WAY, under penalty of jail and fines, can the information be used for any immigration-related activity - identifiable information CANNOT be shared by the census with any other governmental agency! In addition, as citizens, it is up to us to be represented in the electoral process, and this year we have the opportunity to really impact both local and national elections. Already campaigns are seeing the importance of Muslims and we have had direct conversations with the Presidential and congressional campaigns about issues central to our communities. We hope to mobilize and show that our voices matter. Please be assured of the following: 1. We will NOT be sharing this information in any specific form or detail with any governmental agencies. 2. The information will primarily be used to assist those who have not completed the census or voter registration. 3. The information may be used in an anonymized, aggregated form to obtain grants and resources for the community. 4. The information will NOT be used for any solicitation.
