CPCOM condemns the attack on a synagogue in Pittsburgh Saturday(Oct 26) morning

On behalf of a number of Mosques in Central Pennsylvania, CPCOM strongly condemns the attack on a synagogue in Pittsburgh Saturday morning. Our hearts go out to the victims and the families of those affected by this act of senseless violence, and to the Jewish community of Pittsburgh.

Last month Sunday school students from one of the local Islamic Centers and Jewish Temples gathered under a Sukkah to learn about one another. This month they will gather again, this time at the Islamic Center, to further foster a bond of understanding, peace, and solidarity while acknowledging what makes us unique. Houses of worship should be a safe space, spaces of peace, spaces of love, spaces of mercy, spaces of scholarship, places of commune. What we witnessed yesterday was a shattering of all this – the space, lives, and families ripped as under by hate driven by inhumanity. The Muslim community’s heart aches for the loss suffered and born by the Jewish community in Pittsburgh and beyond. Their loss is ours, and we stand with them this day.

This hate was not born overnight, and it will take all of our effort to push it back out of the light and normalcy it seeks. Allah calls upon us to be good to one another, His Mercy touches us through one another – let us be merciful to one another in word and deed! In that spirit, the Muslim community is raising funds in support of our Jewish cousins, please be generous.
